While Powell, Gallwas, Wilson, and Feuerer were ascending the Totem Pole, Colorado climber Huntley Ingalls visited the Moab area while working on a gravity survey (part of the Cold War effort to find domestic uranium). He was probably the first climber to see Castleton Tower. Despite his enthusiasm it took Ingalls two years to persuade anyone to go back with him. When he and Layton Kor showed up, in 1961, they made short work of Castleton Tower, which turned out to be composed of excellent rock, with fine cracks. To this day, the Kor-Ingalls route is a classic.
