WIDE BOYZ

In 2012, two climbers from the UK brought 5.14 difficulty to the desert. Not just 5.14, but 5.14 offwidth. As so many times before, fresh eyes found new challenges, new quests. For Tom Randall and Pete Whittaker the towers were invisible, and even the vertical splitters were ho-hum. They had eyes for caves and grottos and deep canyons, in search of roof cracks. Their ascent of Century Crack, perhaps the longest horizontal roof crack in the world, pioneers a new, world-famous climb and yet another way for rock-climbers to view and interact with the desert landscape.
